Remember Solomon! Let 1 Kings 10:23, 24 refresh our memories.
"So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom. And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart."
Wow! If only someone had warned him not to make the choices he made to end up a whimp. Remember, A whimp is defined as "an ineffectual person; a soft, silly person; a weakling (person who is physically or morally weak). I know if I were in Solomon's place, I would want a warning that what I was about to do would be harmful to me. Wouldn't you? What if there was a book that lists admonitions that held encouraging words about doing right things and stern warnings about making making unwise choices. I would want that. Wouldn't you? Or would we? The truth is that God had warned Solomon. In fact, Solomon started down this path with his DISOBEDIENCE.
1 Kings 11:1 -2 states, "Now King Solomon (AMP - defiantly) loved many foreign (AMP - from the very nations) women . ...2 The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel, “You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway". (NLT) (emphasis mine)
Oh yes! Solomon who once was known for his wisdom had become an ineffectual King over Israel, God's people; a soft, silly person, a weakling (physically or morally weak) person. A WHIMP!
Solomon's DESIRE led him into DECEPTION! He did not have a "perfect heart" as did his father, David. Therefore DECEIT characterized his heart. But as Solomon continued his descent from being wise to being a whimp, we discover that he had misplaced DEVOTION. I believe the depth of his DEVOTION was realized when he went after false gods and eventually brought them to him and built altars for the gods of all his "strange" wives. But it all started with DISOBEDIENCE.
Now the dilemma for you and me is what will we do. Will we heed God's instructions he has given us in His Book or will we choose the path of disobedience? The Bible is our instruction book on how to be wise. Will we heed his Word and become wise or disregard God's clear instructions and whimp out?
